Chris Paul Joins Warriors, Jordan Poole Heads to Wizards
According to sources, the Washington Wizards have made additional trades following their agreement to send Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Chris Paul. The Wizards have now agreed to send Chris Paul to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Jordan Poole. In this deal, the Wizards will also receive a protected 2030 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick from the Warriors.
This trade is part of the Wizards’ complete roster overhaul under their new president of basketball operations, Michael Winger. The Beal trade to the Suns was finalized, with the Wizards receiving Chris Paul and Landry Shamet, along with several draft picks and cash considerations. The Suns also acquired Jordan Goodwin and Isaiah Todd from the Wizards.
The agreement to send Paul to the Warriors was made separately, allowing the Wizards to have time to relocate Paul to a third team and acquire additional assets. The Warriors, with their new general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., have made their first significant move by acquiring Paul.
Chris Paul, who has spent the past decade facing the Warriors in the playoffs, will now join forces with Stephen Curry on the Warriors. Both players are among the four active guards with over 20,000 career points.
Paul’s arrival in Golden State provides the team with a different offensive approach when Curry is off the court. However, given Paul’s age and experience, he is expected to take on a reserve role in what will be his 19th NBA season.
While the trade has not been officially announced, Paul expressed his excitement about joining the Warriors and mentioned that he has already had a positive conversation with Curry.
The trade also benefits the Warriors financially, as they will remove a significant amount of money from their future salary obligations. Paul has an expiring $30 million contract, while Poole has a four-year, $140 million extension.
The Wizards, on the other hand, will benefit from acquiring Poole, who will fill the starting shooting guard position left vacant by Beal. The Wizards have been active in forming a new starting backcourt, having previously agreed to trade Kristaps Porzingis to the Boston Celtics and acquiring point guard Tyus Jones from the Memphis Grizzlies.
